About Us

Benton Real Estate Appraisers has performed thousands of fee appraisals and assessments since its inception in 1981. We have provided expert witness testimony in Addison, Chittenden, Washington and Palm Beach County Superior Courts as well as Federal Bankruptcy Court.

The appraisal firm was started in 1981 by William Benton.  A 1978 graduate of the University  of Vermont with a BA in Economics, Bill obtained a real estate sales license and worked with Paul Heald at Foulsham Farms Real Estate selling unique country property in Chittenden and Addison Counties.  Complementing his real estate position in sales, Bill participated in the first Vermont Housing Finance Agency/Home Mortgage Guarantee Board appraisal licensing course and exam.  In October 1980, he became the youngest VHFA/VHMGB certified appraiser in the State of Vermont at age 24.  The appraisal business was started in 1981 and the firm incorporated as W.D. Benton Inc., Appraisers in 1986. In 2020, Bill's son Will joined the firm as a certified residential appraiser. Will is a 2009 graduate of the University of Vermont with a BS in Business Administration.
